Last summer I gave up wearing sunscreen.  I know kinda crazy thought huh? I read all about the harmful effects of the chemicals in sunscreen and stopped cold turkey.  You could ask the kid how crazy this was.  I was the mom yelling at everyone to wear sunscreen all the time.  I believe it took all of last summer for the kid to believe me.

If you want to read more about sunscreen try here or here.  If you are a die hard must use sunscreen then I have one answer for you.   Homemade.

The kids GF is a clear color.   I know that is not really a color but, she is so white as to be clear.  She will be spending time in the pool and we have an all day outdoor concert to go to.  I want her to be healthy and enjoy it all.  This lead to me researching sunscreen recipes.

If you look hard enough you  will realize you owned the book all along.  Yep that is me.  I kept seeing the same book referenced then checked my eBooks and found it.

My buttered Life Summer edition is the book published byMade On Lotion

The recipe calls for :

  • 1/2 oz. Beeswax
  • 2 oz. Coconut oil
  • 2 oz. Shea butter
  • 2 Tbsp. Zinc oxide

So far the GF has used it once in the pool with pretty good results.  Will keep you posted if it is a go or no go.

Do you have alternate sunscreen options?  What are they?
